China Continues to Top Arrivals in Maldives – Global Visitor Numbers Continue to Rise

The Maldives continues to witness a surge in tourism, with China emerging as the undisputed leader in visitor arrivals this year. While Italy briefly held the top spot at the beginning of 2024, Russia soon took the lead. However, China has now firmly claimed the number one position, contributing a significant 11.2% of the market share with a staggering 64,834 arrivals by 27th March 2024. For getaways in the Maldives, 5 star water villas on private island resorts the likes of OBLU Xperience Ailafushi continue to be a popular choice for travellers looking to enjoy the best of this destination.

It should be also noted that the tourism boom extends beyond China. As of 27th March 2024, the Maldives Ministry of Tourism reported a remarkable 14.2% increase in overall tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 576,952 visitors. This positive trend bodes well for the rest of the year, as the Maldives sets its sights on welcoming a record-breaking two million tourists.
