Dubai, aiming to solidify its position further as a global aviation hub, has announced the immediate construction of what aims to be the world’s largest airport, Al Maktoum International Airport. Sheikh Mohammed, the UAE’s Prime Minister revealed the futuristic project will be backed by a staggering $35 billion investment, with a final capacity of up to 250 million passengers. Details regarding the airport’s design have been released, which include computer-rendered plans and satellite images of the site that show an expansive build featuring ultra-modern architecture synonymous with the city.
Known for pushing technological innovation, Dubai has been a record holder over the years with architectural design, which includes the world’s first 3D-printed buildings, the world’s tallest skyscraper, and up until 2018, the world’s largest mall. With the rising popularity of its metropolitan landscape and subsequent tourism, international hospitality chains have also widened their reach. Increasing numbers of properties have been established in the heart of the city, including Paramount Hotel Dubai, by the renowned Hollywood entertainment franchise, which makes the most of its location as a hotel near Dubai Mall.
