Maldives Continues to See Tourist Influx – Significant Year-On-Year Growth

The Maldives continues to bask in the sunshine of a resurgent tourism industry, with a significant growth in arrivals this year. According to the nation’s Ministry of Tourism, as of May 15th, 2024, a total of 837,189 tourists had entered the Maldives, marking an impressive 11.5% year-on-year growth. This translated to a daily arrivals average of 6,156 visitors, while the average stay duration in this island paradise was eight days.

China continued to reign supreme as the leading source market, contributing 11.1% of total arrivals at the time. However, there was a shift in the rankings for the second and third spots. While the United Kingdom previously held the number two position, it was overtaken by Russia. Rounding out the top five source markets were Italy and Germany, respectively.

Looking ahead, the country can confidently expect tourism to continue flourishing as globetrotters seek idyllic escapes on private island resorts the likes of OBLU Xperience Ailafushi. The allure of holidays while staying at luxury villas in Maldives remains a key driver, enticing visitors with experiences unlike any other. With its pristine beaches, luxurious accommodations, holistic wellness and fun adventures, this South Asian nation is poised to maintain its position as a leading tourist destination.
