In a move to cater to the rising demand for travel between Turkey and Sri Lanka, Turkish Airlines has significantly bolstered its Colombo service. Effective May 14, 2024, the airline will now offer daily flights between Istanbul and Colombo, providing increased flexibility and convenience for passengers.
This expansion reflects Sri Lanka’s growing popularity as a tourist destination and strengthens connectivity between the two nations. According to the Airport and Aviation Services (AASL), the country saw an increase of 40% in international passengers since 2023, with 1,602,417 international passenger movements and 8,946 international aircraft movements as of February 2024. With the increasing commerciality of holiday destinations and resorts all around the country, including 5 star hotels in Negombo, which is only a short distance from Bandaranaike International Airport.
